Valuentum’s 3 Breakthroughs in the Field of Finance and More

Valuentum’s President Brian Nelson pauses for a picture before speaking at the CFA Society of Houston in March 2017. By Valuentum Editorial Staff Let’s cover Valuentum’s 3 major breakthroughs in the field of finance. The first one is big and may challenge you to rethink everything you think you know about investing. 1. On a logical framework, Valuentum has debunked John C. Bogle’s landmark syllogism that has paved the way for the concept of index investing. Index investing has been built on a logical shortcoming, whether supported by evidence or not. We think it is important that the investment community know of this. The patient that is afflicted will carry two copies of the cystic fibrosis conductance regulator protein (CFTR) gene. The CFTR gene allows the body to produce the CFTR protein, whose function is to remove chloride from the cells. Patients that have CF will suffer from a “thickening” … Read more

Hooray! Biogen’s Breakthrough Alzheimer’s Drug?

We’re disappointed that we missed highlighting Biogen (BIIB) to our membership many moons ago. Biogen’s stock has more than quadrupled since we launched coverage of the company in late 2011, and frankly, its stock has done nothing but rocket higher. To be fair, Biogen is a top-10 holding in the Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV), a position in the Best Ideas portfolio, so we do have some exposure to the blossoming biotech, but we could have done a better job pounding the table. The once- 9-rated on the Valuentum Buying Index, Health Care Select Sector SPDR has approximately doubled since it was added to the Best Ideas portfolio, but we know that may not be good enough. The news … Read more

Earnings from 15 Dividend Growth Giants

History has revealed that the best performing stocks during the previous decades have been those that shelled out ever-increasing cash to shareholders in the form of dividends. In a recent study, S&P 500 stocks that initiated dividends or grew them over time registered roughly a 9.6% annualized return since 1972 (through 2010), while stocks that did not pay out dividends or cut them performed poorly over the same time period.
