The fortunes of the group are levered to energy prices (crude/natural gas), as higher prices make drilling projects more attractive and increase the demand for oilfield equipment and services. Visa’s net operating revenue advanced 26% on a year-over-year basis in the quarter thanks in part to the inclusion of Visa Europe, and the company recorded GAAP net income of $2.1 billion, or $0.86 per share, better than consensus expectations.
