ALERT: Replacing Disney with Republic Services in BIN Portfolio

Image Source: Valuentum By Brian Nelson, CFA After The Walt Disney Company’s (DIS) poor performance in its fiscal fourth quarter (calendar third quarter) 2022 results, released November 9, we no longer think the company is a great fit as one of our best ideas. We have cut our discounted cash-flow-derived fair value estimate of Disney to $93 per share and are removing the company from the simulated Best Ideas Newsletter (BIN) portfolio. The cash “raised” from Disney in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio will be allocated to one of our favorite garbage haulers, Republic Services (RSG), which is already a key idea in the simulated Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio. Disney’s revenue in its fiscal fourth quarter grew 9% as the … Read more

We think the best opportunities arise from an understanding of … Read more

In the News: META, AAPL, AMZN, RSG, DLR, VRTX, XOM, CVX

Image Source: Valuentum By Brian Nelson, CFA Readers should expect a substantial reduction in our fair value estimate of Meta Platforms (META). The company’s spending is out of control, and the impact on our expectations of free cash flow will be materially punitive. As we have reiterated time and time again in our work, stock prices and returns are based in part on future expectations of free cash flow, and our expectations for Meta’s have changed. A look at how fast things fell apart at Meta is informative.  The company reported Q4’21 results in February 2022, and it’s only been a few months for the company to experience the considerable deterioration — for free cash flow to fall from $12.6 … Read more

Garbage Hauler Republic Services Beats Estimates, Raises Guidance

Image Shown: Shares of newsletter portfolio idea Republic Services Inc have put up strong performance so far year-to-date in the face of volatile capital markets. By Callum Turcan Garbage hauler Republic Services Inc (RSG) reported second quarter 2022 earnings that beat both consensus top- and bottom-line estimates. The firm’s strong performance during the first half of this year gave management the confidence to boost Republic Services’ full-year guidance during its latest earnings update.
