Boeing Keeps Raking in Aircraft Orders

Boeing (click ticker for report: ) updated its ‘Orders and Deliveries‘ page on its website this week, and we were pleased to see a nice uptick in orders. We keep a close eye on commercial aircraft orders as the pace remains a key driver of sentiment within the aerospace industry, even though Boeing and Airbus are effectively “sold out” for at least the next 12 months. According to the disclosure, the plane-maker has booked roughly 428 net orders through May 21 of this year, which puts the aerospace giant well on its way to achieving a book-to-bill north of 1 (signaling backlog expansion). Though our positive thesis on the aerospace supply chain–AAR (AIR), Astronics (ATRO), Rockwell Collins (COL), HEICO (HEI), Hexcel Corp (HXL), Precision Castparts (PCP), Spirit AeroSystems (SPR), … Read more

Bottom in Sentiment Has Been Reached in Boeing’s 787; Orders for Planes Surge at the Airframe Makers

What a wild ride it has been for Boeing (click ticker for report: ) in the past few years. In a move widely applauded for choosing to build the incredibly efficient, mostly-composite, revolutionary 787 Dreamliner (instead of a gargantuan super-jumbo like the double-decker Airbus A380), the engineering, development, and production of the plane has been filled with more than its share of costly problems. Not only was the plane delayed at least a half dozen times during the engineering and development of the aircraft to first flight, but the company is dealing with highly-publicized “teething” pains now that the plane is in service. This morning, Europe, Japan and India have joined the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in grounding the … Read more

Roaring 20s? — Consumer Staples Valuations Stretched

Strong outlooks for Kimberly-Clark, United Technologies, Hexcel and Lockheed Martin point to an economy that is still gaining momentum. We caution investors of consumer staples stocks, however, with many equities holding large net debt positions, and the sector trading at almost 20 times forward earnings. US Congress Is Getting Ready to Pass a Massive ~$2.2 Trillion Fiscal Stimulus Bill

Nelson: The 16 Most Important Steps To Understand The Stock Market

A previous version of this article appeared on our website July 21, 2013. Refreshed and updated throughout, as of July 2018. By Brian Nelson, CFA After earning my MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and training stock and credit analysts from large organizations over the past decade or so, I have heard just about every question (though I admit I am still surprised by many things and remain a very humble student of the markets). I’ve also spent years perfecting the discounted cash flow process for large research organizations such as Morningstar and studied under one of the most famed aggressive growth investors of all time, Richard Driehaus. Boeing’s Big Dividend Hike; Potential Deal with Embraer

We love Boeing. The company has been one of our favorites for years, but its performance during 2017 has simply been amazing. The dividend growth giant upped its payout in a big way recently, too, even as it is reportedly pursuing merger discussions with Embraer.

Why We Like Lockheed Martin as a Defensive Dividend Growth Play

Image Source: Lockheed Martin Corporation – Third Quarter Fiscal 2019 Earnings Presentation By Callum Turcan On January 13, 2020, we announced (link here) we were making some major changes to our newsletter portfolios and that included adding major defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) to the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio with a modest 2.5% – 3.5% weighting. Lockheed Martin is the lead contractor on the massive F-35 fighter jet program, has an expansive slate of weapon systems offerings (including the Javelin and Paragon systems), owns helicopter company Sikorsky (which sells aircraft for military, governmental, and civilian purposes), and offers a wide range of other defense related products and services (radar, sensors, etc.).
