Please select the image below to download, “Value and Momentum Within Stocks, Too:” Abstract: This paper strives to advance the field of finance in four ways: 1) it extends the theory of the “The Arithmetic of Active Management” to the investor level; 2) it addresses certain data problems of factor-based methods, namely with respect to value and book-to-market ratios, while introducing price-to-fair-value ratios in a factor-based approach; 3) it may lay the foundation for academic literature regarding the Valuentum, the value-timing, and ultra-momentum factors; and 4) it walks through the potential relative outperformance that may be harvested at the intersection of relevant, unique and compensated factors within individual stocks. AT&T Disappoints Again

Image: AT&T is back in the doghouse, as free cash flow generation came in worse than expected during its first-quarter 2023 results. Image Source: AT&T By Brian Nelson, CFA It’s unbelievable. As soon as we started to warm up to AT&T (T) in October of last year, noting that its free cash flow generation was looking a lot better, the company falls off the tracks again. During the first quarter of 2023, AT&T’s cash flow from operations dropped more than $950 million on a year-over-year basis, while capital spending and cash paid for vendor financing soared. Non-GAAP free cash flow came in at $1.0 billion (missing expectations), while the company shelled out $2 billion in dividends during the period. Excluding … Read more

We Expect to Raise Our Fair Value Estimate of Honeywell

That said, we don’t include Honeywell in any newsletter portfolio given weakening fundamentals and an increased net debt position, but it remains top of mind should our existing holdings start to register ratings on the Valuentum Buying Index that may start to point to some profit taking. Honeywell yields just north of 2%. We continue to expect our newsletter holdings to perform relatively better against a strengthening economic backdrop, and that means for us, Honeywell will remain on the bench. During Honeywell’s third quarter, results released … Read more

Intel boosted its full-year outlook for fiscal 2020 on a net basis (which included an increase in its expected free cash flows this fiscal year) during its latest earnings update, though management reduced its forecast for Intel’s expected operating margins versus previous expectations. We continue to like Intel’s ability to generate sizable free cash flows, though we are concerned with its rising net debt load of … Read more
