Exclusive Analysis for the Discerning Investor
Chip maker Intel reported a solid second quarter Tuesday. Though guidance was revised downward, we still think the shares are cheap.
India’s second-largest IT outsourcing firm, Infosys, reported solid earnings but slashed its full-year guidance. Infosys is yet another tech firm to cut its outlook.
Appliances and electronics retailer hhgregg slashed its guidance thanks to poor TV and audio equipment sales.
Chipmaker AMD pre-announced poor results for its second-quarter revenue. We suspect earnings will also be poor, but we still like Intel.
After increasing more than 30% since September of last year, Best Idea Portfolio holding Intel has fallen 10% during the past month. Despite the pullback, we think the firm’s stock price rise is far from over, with the company registering a 9 on our Valuentum Buying Index.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), on Wednesday, slashed its revenue growth outlook for its third quarter to an increase of 4% to 6% from the range of 8% to 12% previously. The chip maker also cut its expected gross margin for the period to 44% to 45% from 47% before. The company noted some problems regarding yield and manufacturing issues at one of its German foundry partners (Globalfoundries Inc.). Given that most of the issues arose from complexities related to the use of common tools, we’re not sure that we can take such an explanation at face value. It’s likely that this pre-announcement by AMD may be setting up for a further disappointment in the back half of this year, particularly … Read more

It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” — Winston Churchill By Brian Nelson, CFA Very few of us could have imagined that we’d witness the bull market that began on that fateful day in March 2009 that might very well mark a generational low. In 2009, major investment banks around the globe were struggling to survive, and the fallout in the mortgage markets left the banks holding paper that nobody wanted to own, let alone buy.
