Public Storage Currently Has the Financial Strength to Support Its Payout
Image Source: Public Storage – 2019 Annual Report. High Yield Dividend Newsletter portfolio holding Public Storage reported its first quarter results for 2020 on May 1. The self-storage real estate investment trust’s (‘REIT’) core funds from operations (‘FFO’) per share grew by 2% year-over-year last quarter, hitting $2.58 per share, while its occupancy rate (as measured by its rentable square feet) grew by ~60 basis points year-over-year, reaching 93.1%. As of this writing, shares of PSA yield ~4.4%.

Lockheed Martin Marches Forward During These Harrowing Times
Image Source: Lockheed Martin Corporation – First Quarter Fiscal 2020 Earnings IR Presentation. On April 21, Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio holding Lockheed Martin Corp reported first-quarter earnings for fiscal 2020 (period ended March 29, 2020) that beat both consensus top- and bottom-line estimates. Even better, management largely kept Lockheed Martin’s fiscal 2020 guidance intact, save for a marginal reduction in the firm’s expected sales which is primarily due to supply chain and production issues the ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic is creating for Lockheed Martin’s ‘Aeronautics’ business. With that in mind, Lockheed Martin is still forecasting for ~6% revenue growth this year, highlighting the resilience of defense contractor’s financials even during harrowing times such as these. Shares of LMT yield ~2.6% as of this writing.

Wayfair’s Sales Rise as US Households Stay In
Image Shown: Shares of Wayfair Inc shot up on April 6 after publishing a very favorable business update. E-commerce firm Wayfair sells furniture and home décor online and operates several websites including Wayfair, Joss & Main, AllModern, Birch Lane, and Perigold. Shares of W surged upwards on April 6 after the e-commerce company put out a very promising business update that stated Wayfair’s sales were skyrocketing upwards. While most of the US economy (and others) is shutting down to contain and ride out the pandemic, Wayfair’s business model appears more resilient than the market was previously giving it credit for. That being said, the company remains very free cash flow negative and carries a net debt position. Its recent convertible debt issuance will provide Wayfair with much needed liquidity, but it remains to be seen if the company’s success of late will translate into positive free cash flows in the medium-term.

Grocery Outlet Is Firing on All Cylinders
Image Shown: Discount grocer Grocery Outlet Holdings Corporation has stores in six states; Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. Image Source: Grocery Outlet – December 2019 IR Presentation. On March 24, discount grocer Grocery Outlet Holdings Corp reported fourth-quarter and full fiscal year earnings for fiscal 2019 (period ended December 28, 2019), and the firm beat both consensus top- and bottom-line estimates (albeit only marginally on the top-line). In the fiscal fourth quarter, the grocer’s GAAP net sales were up 12% year-over-year while Grocery Outlet went from a GAAP net loss of $5 million in the same quarter last fiscal year to a GAAP net profit of $10 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2019. That was partially due to Grocery Outlet utilizing the proceeds from its IPO in June 2019 to pay down its relatively large debt load, which in turn cut its quarterly interest expenses down by more than half year-over-year. From the end of fiscal 2018 to the end of fiscal 2019, Grocery Outlet’s total debt load (inclusive of short-term debt) fell from over $857 million to just below $448 million.
