Honeywell’s Dividend Growth Supported by Promising Cash Flow Growth Outlook

Image Source: Honeywell International Inc – Second Quarter of 2021 IR Earnings Presentation By Callum Turcan We view Honeywell International Inc (HON) as one of the best industrial plays out there and include shares of HON as an idea in the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio. Honeywell has exposure to the aerospace and downstream energy markets–industries that were hit hard by the coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic but are now recovering in earnest–and to the proliferation of e-commerce and “smart buildings.”  Furthermore, in the event that a bipartisan infrastructure bill currently awaiting approval in the US House of Representatives gets signed into law, Honeywell has exposure to the expected surge in domestic infrastructure investments. Our fair value estimate for Honeywell sits at $240 … Read more

Boeing’s Financials Are Absolutely Frightening

By Brian Nelson, CFA On November 18, 2020, Boeing (BA) announced that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) withdrew its order that had grounded its 737-8s and 737-9s (737 MAX) that had been involved in two terrible accidents during the past few years, a Lion Air flight that killed 189 people and an Ethiopian Airlines jet crash that claimed the lives of 157 more. We’ll never forget these tragedies and the impact on the families and the aviation industry, more generally.   In January 2017, we had added Boeing to the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio, but we had removed it March 16, 2018, prior to the unfortunate and high-profile accidents that occurred several months after. During the short time it … Read more

The Dichotomy of Airlines and Aerospace

On Monday, top insurance idea AIG (AIG) announced that it would sell International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) to aircraft leasing firm AerCap Holdings (AER) for $5.4 billion, consisting of $3 billion in cash and the balance in newly-issued AerCap common shares. Though we think ILFC was one of the crown jewels of AIG’s business particularly considering the prospects for global air travel demand in coming years, the price is fair and opportunistic, especially since AerCap is risking its investment-grade status to facilitate the deal. We don’t think better terms could have been had by either party, given financial constraints, and shares of both entities are moving higher on the news. The combined AerCap-ILFC will be #2 on the world stage … Read more

Boeing Declares Victory But Farnborough Disappoints

Image Source: Boeing By Brian Nelson, CFA Nearly a decade ago, Boeing (BA) and Airbus (EADSY) made some big bets on the future. On one hand, Boeing envisioned a world of increasing point-to-point travel requiring wide-body aircraft with ultra-fuel efficient economics, laying the groundwork for the blueprint of the 787 Dreamliner, a mostly-composite aircraft. Airbus, on the other hand, had a different view of the future. The European plane maker believed that air travel would be dominated by the hub-and-spoke system where massive planes would be needed to transport passengers between global hubs. It decided to build the massive A380 superjumbo. If Boeing had not already declared victory, it can probably do so now. In mid-July, Airbus announced that it … Read more
