3 High Dividend Yielders for Consideration
Image: Entities with large net cash positions and substantial free cash flow generation have outperformed not only the broader stock market, but also key high yield areas, including REITs, mortgage REITs and master limited partnerships during the past 10 years. Source: The respective ETF sponsors. The skills to successfully invest for long-term capital gains or long-term dividend growth are much different than those required for generating high yield dividend income. Income investing is a much different proposition. However, the skills do center on a similar equity evaluation process, but one that requires an acknowledgement and heightened awareness of considerably greater downside risks. Income investing, or high yield dividend income investing, should at times be considered among the riskiest forms of investing, as many high dividend-yielding securities tend to trade closer to the characteristics of junk-rated bonds than they do most net cash rich and free cash flow generating powerhouses that we like so much in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio and Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio. McDonald’s, Chipotle, Domino’s Second-Quarter 2023 Results Solid
Image: Shares of McDonald’s, Chipotle and Domino’s have done well since the beginning of 2020, with Chipotle leading the pack. McDonald’s and Chipotle aren’t going away anytime soon, and we’re not at all discouraged by their respective second-quarter 2023 same-store-sales performance; CMG’s performance gave the market pause, but the sell-off in the burrito maker’s shares was mostly profit-taking (after a huge run up so far in 2023). McDonald’s is a perfect stock for the current inflationary environment, in our view, while Chipotle remains one of the best unit growth stories in the restaurant arena. Another one of our favorites, Domino’s has recently broken through its downtrend. We don’t expect to make any major changes to our fair value estimates of MCD, CMG, or DPZ, and we continue to like shares of all three in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio. Jul 26, 2023

Public Storage Picks Up Simply Self Storage; M&A Remains Hot in Self Storage
Image Source: Public Storage. On July 24, Public Storage announced that it had agreed to acquire Simply Self Storage from Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT) for $2.2 billion. The news follows the Public Storage-Life Storage takeout saga that ended with Life Storage running to Extra Space Storage for a deal. A PSA-LSI deal had made a lot of sense, and we’re not sure why LSI wanted nothing to do with PSA, but it may have had to do with a poor cultural fit. LSI apparently said it wasn’t for sale right before it tied the knot with EXR--moves that just didn’t seem to add up, in our view. In any case, we’re glad PSA walked away from a possible “winner’s curse” had it pursued LSI, and we’re largely indifferent to the smaller transaction regarding Simply Self Storage. Jul 12, 2023
Domino’s Pizza Breaks Through Downtrend on Uber Eats and Postmates Deal
Image Source: Domino’s Pizza is up nearly 14% on a year-to-date basis during 2023, but the company’s shares haven’t done much over the past 52 weeks. On July 12, Domino’s Pizza announced that it had inked a new deal with Uber that would allow customers in the U.S. to order Domino’s food through the Uber Eats and Postmates apps with delivery provided by drivers of Domino’s and its franchisees. Domino’s Pizza continues to be a standout leader in digital initiatives across the restaurant arena, and the firm noted that the new agreement will open up Domino’s and its franchisees “to a new segment of customers and what (it) believes will be a meaningful amount of incremental delivery orders.” The high end of our fair value estimate of Domino’s stands at $450 per share. Expect Huge Equity Returns This Decade, Much More Volatility However
Image: Without question, the stylistic area of large cap growth has been the place to be for almost 15 years now. We think it remains the place to be. We expect huge equity returns this decade, but much more volatility – the kind of volatility that will make holding stocks painful at times (and shake out some investors at the worst possible time), but it is what it is, as it has always been. We’re as bullish today as we’ve ever been. Cheers! Jun 21, 2023
