Honeywell Raises Outlook for 2023; Backlog Remains Strong
Image: Honeywell continues to experience strong fundamental momentum across the board. Image Source: Honeywell. We liked Honeywell’s first-quarter 2023 report, released April 27, and its raised outlook for 2023. We remain huge fans of Honeywell’s ~2.1% dividend yield, and we support Honeywell’s COO Vimal Kapur who will succeed Darius Adamczyk as CEO on June 1, 2023. Our fair value estimate for Honeywell remains $210 per share. With shares trading at ~$200 at the time of this writing, there’s still valuation upside to the Honeywell story, in our view. Feb 2, 2023
Meta’s Free Cash Flow Generation Has Returned, But TikTok Has Permanently Changed the Competitive Landscape
Image: Meta Platforms’ free cash flow has bounced back a bit, but the firm’s top-line growth remains challenged as it transitions away from a secular growth powerhouse into a cyclical story with encroaching competition. Image Source: Meta Platforms. We’re loving this nice move higher in the stylistic area of large cap growth, and for those investors seeking broad-based exposure, we think this area is the place to be in the long run. Tesla’s strong financial performance coupled with Meta Platforms’ return to financial discipline are propelling large cap growth higher, but risks to the broader equity markets and economy remain. In any case, with inflation likely peaking in June 2022, fourth-quarter 2022 earnings season coming in better-than-feared, and technical breakouts of key indices across the board from the equal-weighted and market-cap weighted S&P 500 to the NASDAQ-100, equity investors have a lot to cheer about. Honeywell's ESG Efforts May Benefit from More Board Diversity and Moving Beyond Its Asbestos-Saddled Past
Image: Honeywell continues to put together a long resume of ESG highlights. Image Source: Honeywell’s Environmental, Social and Governance Report. Honeywell’s 100+ page Environmental Social and Governance Report for 2022 is a tremendous resource that indicates Honeywell means business when it comes to ESG-related efforts. The firm has a lot of work to do to get to carbon neutral by 2035, and we’d like to see a more diverse board and perhaps more reasonable compensation at the top, but the trajectory for ESG considerations at Honeywell is moving in the right direction. Prior asbestos-related issues weigh heavily on our ESG assessment of Honeywell, but we expect continued improvement across all areas of ESG in the years to come at the firm. Nov 28, 2022

Market Whipsaw: Crypto Collapse and a Lower-than-Expected Inflation Print
Image: Uncertainty in the cryptocurrency markets has surged with concerns over the liquidity of a key exchange. Investors are weighing the spillover effects of crypto with the view that the pace of inflation may have peaked. The U.S. equity market continues to be highly volatile as it whipsaws between concerns over the health and sustainability of cryptocurrency and optimism over lower-than-feared inflation readings. We maintain our bearish/defensive stance on equities, but at the same time, we continue to be “fully-invested” across the simulated newsletter portfolios in part because we don’t want to miss out on days like today, November 10, when the markets are soaring ~2.5%-5.5% depending on which index you are monitoring. We’re also not ruling out a Santa Claus rally through the end of the year. Merry Dow Jones, as they say! Nov 7, 2022
We’ve Updated Our Fair Value Estimate of Boeing; Has Aerospace Bottomed?
Image: Boeing is expecting to turn the corner with respect to positive free cash flow in 2022 and grow it to ~$10 billion annually by 2025/2026. We think this is achievable. Image Source: Boeing. The breakout of COVID-19 wreaked havoc on the airline business and the commercial aircraft-making business alike. But has the commercial aerospace industry finally bottomed? Oct 30, 2022

VBI Ratings Not as Impressive As We Would Have Liked in 2022
Image: How the VBI rating system has ranked equities so far this year. At Valuentum, we use the Valuentum Buying Index (VBI) to source ideas into diversified simulated newsletter portfolios, and the VBI may be most applicable to the simulated Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio, where we generally like to include ideas when they register a high VBI rating and remove them when they register a low VBI rating. We always use the VBI in a portfolio setting and never by itself. Let's talk more about the VBI rating system in this work. Oct 27, 2022
