Honeywell’s Dividend Growth Supported by Promising Cash Flow Growth Outlook

Image Source: Honeywell International Inc – Second Quarter of 2021 IR Earnings Presentation By Callum Turcan We view Honeywell International Inc (HON) as one of the best industrial plays out there and include shares of HON as an idea in the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio. Honeywell has exposure to the aerospace and downstream energy markets–industries that were hit hard by the coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic but are now recovering in earnest–and to the proliferation of e-commerce and “smart buildings.”  Furthermore, in the event that a bipartisan infrastructure bill currently awaiting approval in the US House of Representatives gets signed into law, Honeywell has exposure to the expected surge in domestic infrastructure investments. Our fair value estimate for Honeywell sits at $240 … Read more

Lockheed Makes an Intriguing Acquisition

Image Source: Lockheed Martin Corporation – December 2020 IR Presentation covering Lockheed Martin Corporation’s pending acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Inc By Callum Turcan On December 20, Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) announced it was acquiring Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Inc (AJRD) for $56.00 per share in cash, or $51.00 per share after taking into account a special $5.00 per share pre-closing cash dividend payment that Aerojet Rocketdyne plans to pay out. The deal has a total equity value of ~$5 billion when including the special dividend component and is expected to close in the second half of 2021. In our view, this deal is highly complementary to Lockheed Martin’s existing operations. Combining Aerojet Rocketdyne’s propulsion and power systems business segments with … Read more

Honeywell Is a Tremendously Resilient Enterprise and a Rock-Solid Dividend Payer

Image Shown: Honeywell International Inc expects its financial performance will post a significant rebound in 2021. Please note this guidance assumed a safe and viable COVID-19 vaccine would get distributed by early-2021, though distribution activities started before then in December 2020, which supports Honeywell’s near-term outlook. Image Source: Honeywell International Inc – Third Quarter of 2020 IR Earnings Presentation By Callum Turcan We added one of our favorite industrial stocks Honeywell International Inc (HON) to the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio on November 27 (link here) as the firm’s operational and financial performance has proven to be incredibly resilient in the face of the ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic. As global health authorities begin to put an end to the pandemic, aided … Read more

Boeing’s Financials Are Absolutely Frightening

By Brian Nelson, CFA On November 18, 2020, Boeing (BA) announced that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) withdrew its order that had grounded its 737-8s and 737-9s (737 MAX) that had been involved in two terrible accidents during the past few years, a Lion Air flight that killed 189 people and an Ethiopian Airlines jet crash that claimed the lives of 157 more. We’ll never forget these tragedies and the impact on the families and the aviation industry, more generally.   In January 2017, we had added Boeing to the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio, but we had removed it March 16, 2018, prior to the unfortunate and high-profile accidents that occurred several months after. During the short time it … Read more

Berkshire Hathaway Prepares Itself for COVID-19

Image Source: Berkshire Hathaway Inc – 2019 Annual Report By Callum Turcan Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRK.A) (BRK.B) reported first quarter 2020 earnings on May 2, which due to significant unrealized losses in its investment portfolio (a product of the market swoon in the early months of 2020) the firm swung to a large loss on a GAAP basis. As Berkshire Hathaway’s leadership team has often noted, the 2018 accounting rule change that forces companies to recognize unrealized gains and losses in the income statement can make GAAP net income and GAAP diluted EPS figures near meaningless without digging deeper into the firm’s financials. For convenience and to better showcase its actual performance, Berkshire Hathaway also includes its ‘operating earnings’ within … Read more

Not Worried About Priceline, Boeing; Yes Worried About Fickle Retail

Image Source: Mike Mozart Priceline and Boeing have been here before. Fickle retail continues to succumb to the Amazon effect. By Brian Nelson, CFA The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA) closed just shy of the 21,000 mark on May 11, while the S&P 500 (SPY) ended the session at ~2,395. We continue to ride the wave in the equity markets higher, even as we exercise caution almost across the board. First-quarter earnings season has actually been quite good, however, with the “blended earnings growth rate for S&P 500 companies north of 10% (it was 13.5% with more than 80% of S&P 500 companies reporting). FactSet noted in its May 5 report that this pace of growth is the highest since … Read more
