Stay the Course: Alcoa's 1Q Results Support the Overweight Aerospace Position in Our Best Ideas Portfolio
Alcoa kicked off first-quarter earnings season with a strong report. Not only did it report a nice earnings beat, but it raised its outlook for aerospace end market demand 3 percentage points, to as much as 14% growth during 2012. The aluminum giant's comments regarding the automotive sector weren't that shabby either. We think this bodes well for our positions in our Best Ideas portfolio, and with a large percentage of our portfolio in cash, we're waiting patiently to capitalize on the recent market pullback.

We Can't Rule Out That Best Buy Won't Eventually Go the Way of Circuit City; VBI Score: 3
Best Buy's recent transformational plan speaks of desperation as it struggles to compete with Amazon, which dominates online retailing, and Apple, which offers its products through company-owned channels. We remain on the sidelines with respect to Best Buy's shares.
