Image source: JD.com fourth quarter presentation Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has grown at a tremendous rate in recent years, and it is expected to continue taking advantage of a ripe opportunity in its home nation. However, management has more grandiose plans for its burgeoning e-commerce platform as it expects to make its US debut before the end of 2018. By Kris Rosemann When you think of the Chinese Internet space, probably Alibaba (BABA), Tencent (TCEHY) and Baidu (BIDU) are among the first to come to mind, but there is another giant in the Chinese Internet space. Portfolios: Dividend Growth Versus Best Ideas

April 8, 2018

Let’s talk about the difference between the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio and the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio. Hi folks, I wanted to post a short note because it’s important that we continue to explain the difference between the two newsletter portfolios that we provide as part of the individual membership. We publish a Dividend Growth Newsletter and a Best Ideas Newsletter, the former delivered on the 1st of the month and the latter delivered on the 15th of the month. We also cover and provide reports on over 1,000 stocks and dividends on our website, as well as provide quarterly publications like the Dividend100 publication, for example. We cover the bases. We also provide the monthly Nelson Exclusive publication, which by

Dividend Growth Portfolio: Adding Two New Gems

April 6, 2018

We’re making some moves in the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio today. By Brian Nelson, CFA We decided to remove Boeing (BA) and Procter & Gamble (PG) from the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio recently. You can view the Dividend Growth Newsletter notification log here. We still like both companies a lot. Boeing has a fantastic position and an inherently hedged business portfolio, while Procter & Gamble still retains some of the best consumer brands, even after a rather aggressive brand simplification process. However, Boeing has run too far too fast, and we can’t rule out P&G turning into another General Electric (GE) given its decision, too, to shrink its brand exposure. We’re replacing those two stalwarts with two key players

Walgreens Boots Alliance Remains at the Crossroads of a Rapidly-Evolving Healthcare Landscape

April 5, 2018

Image Source: Walgreens 2Q 2018 Earnings Release By Alexander J. Poulos The evolving healthcare landscape has been dealing with the threat of a disruptive new competitor entering the market and considerable political risk. Though the need for healthcare remains impervious to economic forces, a clear deflationary trend has descended on the industry that has affected many of the well-entrenched participants. Let’s examine Walgreens Boots Alliance for clues that a shift in sentiment may have occurred in this well known, yet beleaguered sector. We’re watching Walgreen’s equity very closely. The Consolidation Trend Continues One of the often overlooked, but in our view, key dynamics affecting the drug distributers/retailers such as Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) is the continued deflationary trends exhibited in

Alert: Dropping P&G; Also — Intel’s Dividend Hike; General Motors Puts Up Strong March Sales

April 3, 2018

We were reminded of some good news from Intel and General Motors, but the time has come to part with Procter & Gamble. We may have included it in the simulated Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio too long. By Brian Nelson, CFA Hope you all had a warm holiday weekend. It was pleasant this morning to be reminded that simulated newsletter portfolio idea Intel (INTC) increased its dividend 10% when it reported quarterly results January. The dividend will be payable on June 1 to shareholders of record on May 7. The enthusiasm behind our call on Intel and our article in the April edition of the Dividend Growth Newsletter was a bit short-lived given the recent rumors in the PC market,

Michael Kors – The Latest 9 or 10 on the Valuentum Buying Index

April 2, 2018

Image shown: The performance of Michael Kors relative to the stock market since it registered a 9 on the Valuentum Buying Index. Is it any surprise that the markets seem to be struggling at current levels? The Valuentum Buying Index registered its latest 9 or 10 with Michael Kors in August 2017. While that stock has surged, the market has floundered. It’s so important to be patient for ideas. Anyone can create ideas. Not everyone can create good ideas, and that’s the difference. Trump Knocks Air Out of Amazon; Intel Investors Overreact to Apple News

April 2, 2018

Only fools, or worse, are saying that our money losing Post Office makes money with Amazon. THEY LOSE A FORTUNE, and this will be changed. Also, our fully tax paying retailers are closing stores all over the country…not a level playing field! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 2, 2018 President Trump continues to move markets, and his messages about Amazon haven’t gone unnoticed. Apple seems to be targeting wider gross margins in coming years, as it looks to bring in-house a part of its supply chain. Intel’s shares overreact. By Brian Nelson, CFA President Trump seems to want to put Amazon (AMZN) in its place, and his recent comments have been a source of fear for many investors of

When you read our research, we’re not just providing financial metrics — Valuentum is striving to provide an answer to the most important question in investing: what is a company worth? Though there are varying opinions about which underlying factor is the most important investment consideration, at the end of the day, the process of valuation collects every investment consideration to provide a conclusion. It is the answer after all other considerations, the final outcome of analysis. It is why we say that investors that don’t pay attention to valuation may be doomed to fail…eventually. Not seeking valuation is not seeking the answer.

About Our Name

But how, you will ask, does one decide what [stocks are] "attractive"? Most analysts feel they must choose between two approaches customarily thought to be in opposition: "value" and "growth,"...We view that as fuzzy thinking...Growth is always a component of value [and] the very term "value investing" is redundant.

-- Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway annual report, 1992

At Valuentum, we take Buffett's thoughts one step further. We think the best opportunities arise from an understanding of a variety of investing disciplines in order to identify the most attractive stocks at any given time. Valuentum therefore analyzes each stock across a wide spectrum of philosophies, from deep value through momentum investing. And a combination of the two approaches found on each side of the spectrum (value/momentum) in a name couldn't be more representative of what our analysts do here; hence, we're called Valuentum.
