The Best Ideas Portfolio Continues to Trounce the Market, by Brian Nelson, CFA
For our new members, this is our Best Ideas Newsletter. We house our Best Ideas portfolio in this monthly publication. The Best Ideas portfolio can always be found on page 8 of the Best Ideas Newsletter.
The Best Ideas portfolio includes companies that have passed the test of our analyst team. First, these firms generally have scored highly on the Valuentum Buying Index, a rating system that ranks the timeliness of ideas on the basis of 1 through 10 (with 10 being the best).
Once a best idea is added to the portfolio, we typically hold on to it until it registers a 1 or 2 on the Valuentum Buying Index. We may make tactical changes to a stock’s weighting in the portfolio or remove a position on the basis of diversification considerations, but for the most part, the Valuentum Buying Index is the primary criteria for portfolio additions and removals.
So far, the Valuentum Buying Index has performed wonderfully. An update on the performance calculation of the Valuentum Buying Index can be found at the following link:
Ideas included in the Best Ideas portfolio should be considered our best ideas at any given time. We intend to capture the entire stock pricing cycle (VBI: high –> low) with the ideas in the portfolio and not truncate profit potential. Incremental ideas such as General Electric this month, for example, should be considered our next best idea after portfolio constituents.
The market continues to rocket higher, and the cash-rich Best Ideas portfolio continues to keep pace. We trust you’re happy with fresh all-time highs!
